Planning and Environmental Consultancy support for new Prison estate provision

Public Sector Estate delivery - Scottish Prison Service

Nevis’s Planning expert has a long-standing relationship with the Scottish Prison Service, having previously been the Lead Planning Consultant in securing planning consents on a number of new prison and custodial unit developments. Nevis were appointed, from 2019 on behalf of Scottish Prison Service, to provide environmental consultancy services in relation to the new HMP Glasgow and HMP Inverness prison estates projects.

Our role for HMP Inverness was in relation to discharging specific planning conditions, including the preparation and submission of a Construction and Environmental Management Document that covered a range of different topic-based Construction and Environmental Management Plans. For HMP Glasgow, Nevis were appointed to manage the EIA process, including an initial compacted EIA Screening and Scoping Report stage to determine the scope of the subsequent EIA. Nevis procured the EIA team to deliver the EIA Report to support the planning application, including drafting a Construction Environmental Management Plan to support the application. Understanding the Planning and EIA processes was critical in helping to secure a planning permission within a tightly defined timescale.
