A fantastic opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic ornithological consultants to join our growing team for the start of the 2022 survey season and beyond. Those seeking a seasonal position will also be considered.

About the role

Nevis have a variety of long standing clients and long term projects, as well as a raft of new projects for 2022. We are therefore seeking passionate ornithologists to complement our existing teams in either the Inverness or Carlisle Office

Nevis have a wide client base across Scotland and the North of England and so our sites include onshore wind, hydro and land for development. Surveys will be varied to include Habitats and Ecology (pine martens, water voles, wildcats.) and some ornithology - who wants to do the same thing everyday anyway?

The role will involve working away.

Liaison with clients and landowners and provide technical support in respect to the environmental and ecology activities at a project level

We are seeking a candidate with a background in ecology & field work due to the high volume of  surveys we have on our books. We do have a preference for experience in a consultancy role, however all candidates will be considered.

We are looking for a team player, with a calm, organised and patient outlook.


  • Educated to degree level (Environment) and/or considerable experience in field work

  • Ecological/Environmental track record

  • Excellent bird ID skills and the ability to demonstrate experience in a range of ornithology survey techniques (e.g. vantage points, breeding birds, raptors).  

  • Experience of variety of survey methodology in specialist subject area

  • Any licences for working with protected species would be an advantage.

  • Ability to organise yourself and your project workload

  • Good and open communication

  • Knowledge and experience of different methods of recording data in the field, including GIS

  • Fully ICT literate – word, excel, email

  • Right to work in the UK

  • Full driving licence & access to own car

  • Membership CIEEM or working towards it

  • Previous consultancy experience



  • Specialist skills in other areas would be an advantage; e.g. bats, habitats, otters, invertebrates or aquatic species.
